James McManus

MCMANUS, JAMES L. "MAC," of Crofton, MD. Jim departed this life peacefully on January 13, 2014 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center with his wife Mary at his side. Jim was born in Natick, MA on February 7, 1919 to William and Elizabeth McManus, one of eleven children. He is survived by his wife Mary, two sisters, Anna Bliss and Irene DeLorie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his brothers, William, Edward, John and Robert and his sisters, Esther Delaney, Elizabeth Bowden, Mary Hall and Helen Boniface. He was married to Iona Shaw in 1943 until her death in 1978. He graduated from Natick High School and the University of MD. With a Bachelor's Degree. Jim was in the Army 1941-1960 and retired as a Major. During his time in the Army his overseas assignments were Italy, Korea, and Japan and he received the Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Upon his retirement from the Army he went to work for NSA until his retirement in 1979. Jim was an avid golfer and played as many courses as he could throughout the United States. He was a member of The Dewsweepers at Ft. Meade, MD. He loved to travel and went on many trips and cruises throughout his retirement years. He was an avid Ravens as well as a New England Patriot fan and loved watching these matches and games on TV. Jim was a devout man of faith, a devout catholic and Philanthropist as well as a kind, gentle gentleman. Friends may call on Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Hardesty Funeral Home P.A., 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD 21054. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 in the Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Ave S., Millersville, MD 21108. Interment Church Cemetery.
