John Chester Cardinali, 71, of Front Royal, VA died July 25 at his home. He was born February 28, 1942 in Baltimore, son of the late Chester John Cardinali and Ethel M. Lantz Cardinali of Annapolis. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and retired as a rural mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Cardinali was a private pilot. He also enjoyed playing billiards and was a Civil War enthusiast. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, American Legion Post 53, Front Royal BPOE Lodge 2382, and Strasburg Moose Lodge 403. Surviving, along with his mother, is his wife, Ellen M. Cardinali of Front Royal; two sons, John Andrew Cardinali of Denton and John Richard Bryan of Somerville, MA; one daughter, Robin Kelleher of Annapolis; one sister, Jeanine Gruver of Huntingtown; one brother, Philip Cardinali of Baltimore; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 29, at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal, conducted by Rev. Kevin Beres. Interment at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester with military honors. Pallbearers will be Bob Miner, Bob Rector, Dennis Henline, Terry Persons, Billy Kinsey, and Jimmy Marders. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
