IRVIN, JOHN WILLIAM "JACK", 82, of Crofton, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a brief illness; his loving family, Jean, Jayne, and Kenny, by his side. Jack was born to the late William and Theresa Bettinger Irvin in Zerbe (Newtown), PA on March 19, 1931. After graduating from Penn State University in 1952, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Jack went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years and returned to the railroad for the next ten years, working mainly out of the Engineering Office in Philadelphia. In 1967 he joined the Firm of L.T.K. Engineering Services in Philadelphia, where he soon became a Partner. His job took him to many places and countries. He spent five years in Brazil working on the new metro subway cars for both the Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero subway systems. He and his family loved the beautiful country of Brazil and they established many lasting relationships with the people there. After returning to the States, his assignment was the Washington Metro in D.C., from where he retired in 1995. Jack will be remember by many for his daily walks around the Crofton Parkway that he has taken for over 30 years, working in his yard, and spending Saturday evenings at Henninger's Restaurant in Baltimore. Jack is survived by his adoring wife, Jean; his daughter Jayne and her husband Kenny Vieth; many nieces and nephews; and many, many treasured friends. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton, MD 21114 on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11:00am. Interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, at a later date. If desired, contributions may be made to the Crofton Christian Caring Council and mailed to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
