Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Barnes, 76, died August 17 at his home in Annapolis, after a lengthy illness. Ken was born October 18, 1936 in Kilgore, TX to the late F. E. and Mattie Barnes. After graduating from high school in 1956, he entered the Unites States Marines. After retiring from the United States Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant, he enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College, where he received his Associates degree. He then enrolled in the University of Baltimore, receiving a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice in 1985. He was employed at Anne Arundel Community College as the Chief of Security from 1981 to 1990, then became a police officer with the Maryland Transportation Authority at B.W.I. Airport from 1993 to 2001. He enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard. He was an assistant football coach for Davidsonville Youth Football and a member of the Annapolis Lutheran Church, and the East Coast Drill Instructors Association. He was preceded in death by two brothers, F. E. Barnes and Robert Barnes. Ken is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Gloria Barnes; two sons, Kenny Barnes of Annapolis and John Barnes of Steamboat Springs, CO; daughter, Beth Lucas of Ocean City; three grandsons, Garrett and Nathan Lucas, and Kenny Barnes; granddaughter, Arica Woodruff; and four great-grandchild-ren. Friends and family are invited to Ken's Life Celebration from 11 a.m. up till funeral service at 12 p.m., Saturday, August 24, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
