Mary Beierschmitt Obituary

BEIERSCHMITT, MARY LOUISE (BRENNAN), 85, a long time resident of Bowie, MD passed away on Tuesday, June 11 at the Crofton Care & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. The Beierschmitt family acknowledges and appreciates the excellent care Mary Lou received from the doctors, nurses, and supporting staff at the facility during her extended stay. Mary Lou was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to Dr. Michael J. and Kathryn (Earley) Brennan on April 19, 1928, and grew up in nearby Shamokin, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Georgetown University School of Nursing in 1948, and subsequently met and married her husband, Joseph Paul Beierschmitt, on March 31, 1951. The couple resided in Arbutus, Maryland until 1963, when they purchased their home in Bowie, where they subsequently raised their four children. Mary Lou was a bright, outgoing, warm-hearted and compassionate woman, who cared very deeply about her family and those around her. She was very proud of her husband, her four sons, and her nursing career. During her long and distinguished career as a nurse, most notably as a Patient Care Supervisor at the then Anne Arundel General Hospital in Annapolis, where she saved many a life, and provided support and comfort to countless individuals. During her morning rounds, she would always talk with the patients under her care, even those who were non-responsive, believing strongly that all individuals should be treated with the utmost of dignity and respect. In later life, she enjoyed travelling and spending time with her husband and family, which provided them all with countless unforgettable fond memories. Mary Lou is predeceased by her beloved sister and only sibling Rita (Brennan) Wachter, formally of Shamokin, Pennsylvania. Mary Louise is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Paul Beierschmitt, her four sons, Mark Joseph of Bowie, Joseph Michael of Annapolis, Michael John of Bowie and his fiance; Amber McNamara of Crisfield, Maryland, and William Paul and his wife Michelle of Waterford, Connecticut, her grandson, Christopher Michael of New York City, and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Beall Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie, followed by interment in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/ in honor of Mary Lou. June 16, 2013

Mary Lou has been a loving member of our family for the past 48 years and is the Godmother of my youngest daughter Kristina. She & Joe have been at every event in our family and we will miss her very much. Although it is Joe who is my cousin she has always been there for us as though she knew us all her life.
She and all the family will be in our prayers and in out thoughts.
