Maureen Reefe Obituary

Maureen Elaine Reefe (nee Kane), of Crofton, died on January 17 following several months of illness. Born April 20, 1939 in Braintree MA to Harold J. and Helen V. Kane, Maureen graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in 1957, then from the University of Massachusetts at Boston in 1961. She taught 5th grade at Howard School in Brockton, MA until 1967, when she married Gordon E. Reefe of Dayton, OH. The Reefes moved to Bowie in 1971 where they raised their three children. Maureen was familiar to many Bowie residents as an associate at the Bowie Public Library from 1984 to 2009. Devoted to her community, Maureen was active in PTA and Cub Scouts, taught CCD at St. Pius X for many years, and spent time on many other projects. Maureen is survived by her husband Gordon; sons, Stephen of Washington DC, Mark and daughter-in-law, Andrea, of Wyers Cave, VA; daughter, Kathleen of Crofton; grandsons, Michael and William of Wyers Cave, VA, and grandson, Milon Nelson III of Crofton; and brother, Charles Jude Kane of Bridgewater, MA. Family received friends on Tuesday, January 21, at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, January 22 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton. Interment private.
