Michael Vincent Albergo, 89, a 28-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Glen Burnie for over 20 years, died at his home on August 11, 2014 following a five year illness. Known as Mike to family and friends, he was born on June 3, 1925 in Providence, RI, he graduated from Rhode Island College, Providence College, and received his Juris Doctor in 1996 from the University of Baltimore. Mike worked for the Civil Service Commission in Washington, DC and the Social Security Administration as an appeals officer. He served in the United States Navy as an Aerographer's Mate from October 1943-May 1946, and as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from August 1950-February 1952. While in the Marine Corps, he spent a year and half at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston, MA following an automobile accident. Mike was a member of the Annapolis Elks Lodge #622, American Legion Post 297, Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the Fleet Reserve Club of Annapolis and past president of the Order of the Sons of Italy. He enjoyed travelling and sports. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce; a sister, Marie Chyrek; and his parents, Michael A. and Mary Albergo. Mike is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen Hayes Albergo; two sons, Mark and Chris Albergo; and one daughter, Karen Albergo. Friends are invited to Mike's Life Celebration on Monday, August 18 from 6 to 9pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 9am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
