Michael Smith Obituary

Michael John Smith, a 31-year resident of Crofton, died August 29 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. Born on August 15, 1944 in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Michael F. and Julia Ann Smith, Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Economics from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. He also studied at the Harvard University Graduate School for Business in their Trade Union Program. Michael was the Director of Research with the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). He also founded and managed Maryland Apparel Graphics, Inc. and the Chesapeake Bay Hurricanes girls AAU basketball program. Michael is survived by his wife, Kathleen Marie Smith; a son, Michael F. Smith; a daughter, Kelly A. Redd; and three grandchildren, Tommy and Charlie Redd and Alex Smith. Friends are invited to Michael's Life Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton. Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Johns Hopkins Medicine at: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/support.
