GRECO, REBECCA FORTNEY, a woman of uncommon strength, principle and dignity, died unexpectedly in Colorado on July 16, 2013. A 31-year resident of Annapolis, Maryland, she maintained a second home in Telluride, Colorado. Becky was born on September 10, 1945 to Ernest and Leanoir Fortney in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Our Lady of the Elms High School in Akron, and from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1967. She subsequently attended Yale University where she did her graduate studies in social work. Becky began her career as a social worker at Prince George's Hospital in Maryland. Within a few years, she embarked upon a successful career selling residential real estate in Maryland. She sold many properties in the Downs in Annapolis, in Belvoir Farms in Crownsville, in the Stonington development in Arnold, and at Oyster Cove in Grasonville. In addition, she was the developer of Narrows Pointe, a beautiful waterfront community on the eastern shore of Maryland. Becky pursued personal fitness with a passion. Her days of playing tennis and riding horses more recently gave way to golf, skiing and hiking in the mountains. She served with distinction on the board of directors of Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation for the past ten years and on the Foundation board of the Hospice of the Chesapeake. Becky possessed an abundant measure of wisdom and common sense, and was a dependable source of counsel to family and friends. She was known for her generosity and her sincere interest in the lives of the people she met. An exceptionally optimistic and positive person, even in the face of personal adversity, Becky took a special interest in the lives of young people. She was a loving daughter, sister and friend to many. Survivors include her brothers Ernest of Seattle, Washington, Dennis and wife Lori of Grasonville, Maryland, and Timothy of Annapolis; her niece Shawna Beresford of Lynnwood, Washington and nephew Shane Fortney of Seattle, Washington; her god-daughter, Michela Greco of Stratford, Connecticut, and her god-son Everett Finn Gowdy of Nashville, Tennessee; her golden retriever, Shiloh, and her best friend and companion, Patrick McArdle of Washington, DC.
