Robert Julius Bates Sr., 83, a 24 year resident of Pasadena, died on July 4. He was born on August 2, 1930 in North Carolina to the late Ercy J. and Charity Bates. Bob worked as a lead Carpenter, and later a General Shops Foreman, for PEPCO for almost 36 years, until his retirement in 1991. He was a US Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and spending time with his family. Mr. Bates is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Bates; his children, Glenn Bates and his wife, Janice, Robert Bates Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Wendy Ero and her husband, Gary. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Jean Bennett and Barbara Rutledge; a brother, Randy Bates; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at the Stallings Funeral Home, P.A., where funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Interment private.
