Shirley Louise Meldrom, 82, a resident of Arnold, died October 7 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Baltimore, where she was raised, and lived for 28 years in Winter Haven, Florida. She was also a longtime resident of Ferndale. Shirley worked at the Baltimore Sun Newspaper where she met her husband. They ran a paper route in Severna Park for many years. Then worked for the Beach Club Hotel in Disney World, where she enjoyed going to Disney World. She also enjoyed traveling around the United States. She was a member of Ferndale Methodist Church and New Horizon Methodist Church in Florida, and later attended St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible and Bible Study Books. Shirley especially enjoyed roller coasters. She documented everything she did. Shirley was a longtime breast cancer survivor, and participated in Relay for Life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Joseph Meldrom; her brother, Charles Smith; her sister, Marcie White; and one grandson. Shirley is survived by her three sons, Ted Weitzel (Carol) of Linthicum, David Meldrom (Susan) of Frederick, and Wayne Weitzel (Debbie) of Parkville; three daughters, Janice Dennstaedt (Bill) of Washington State, Lura Riddell (Dennis) of Port Deposit, and Brenda Aversa (Vince) of Arnold; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Hwy, in Severna Park. Interment will be private.
