Virginia Belt Obituary

BELT, DOROTHY VIRGINIA TYLER, was born August 12, 1928 to Lillian Branford Tyler and Milton Tyler of Odenton, MD. Dorothy was the only girl. Two of her siblings, Leon Tyler and Joseph Tyler (Cora) and two grandsons, Stanley Bright and Christopher Gipson, preceded her in death. Her brother Earl Tyler lives in Crownsville, MD. Dorothy graduated from Sappington Elementary School in Gambrills and Bates Senior High School Class of 1946. She also attended Bowie State Teachers College in 1947. Dorothy transitioned from this life to her eternal home with Jesus on April 14, 2013. On December 4, 1948, Dorothy married Joseph Henry Belt, Jr. and from this union came four children: Cynthia Gipson, Joseph Belt III, Dorothea Stroman, Wendell Belt, Sr. She has been very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Dorothy became a Christian at an early age. She counted as one of her most precious memories being converted at the age of 9 at a revival at Macedonia UM Church. From that point on, she demonstrated a love for God and for God's people. Dorothy's life was lived in dedication to Christ and to her family. She expended herself sowing seeds of life into every situation she encountered. Her life theme was "May the Work I've Done, Speak for Me," and she leaves a legacy of good work to those who follow her. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 64 years, Joseph H. Belt, Jr., four children, Cynthia Gipson of Gambrills, MD, Joseph Belt, III (Iris-deceased) of Severna Park, MD, Pastor Dorothea Stroman of Clinton, MD and Wendell Belt, Sr. (Pastor Cynthia) of Severn, MD; four grandsons: Wendell Belt, Jr. and Jason Belt of Severn, MD, Troy Belt of Alexandria, VA; and William Stroman, III of Clinton, MD; one granddaughter: Keya Robinson (Brennan) of Annapolis, MD; two great grandsons: Jayden Briggs Belt of Bowie, MD and Rico Walker of Jacksonville, FL. Her brother Earl Tyler (Martha-deceased) of Crownsville, MD; four adopted children, Betty Banks, James Pindell, Jr., Rickie America and Perry Harris; adopted grandson: William Pughsley; eleven sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, a life-long friend, Credella Matthews and a host of other relatives and friends. There will be a Wake from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 22, with family visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. at Macedonia UM Church, 1567 Sappington Station Road, Gambrills, MD 21054. Mrs. Dorothy Belt was an inspiration. Since the time I was 5 years old, she always handed me little peppermints in church, and I grew up in her Children Ministries. She always supported me in everything that I did from kindergarten to now; I always received a card for every accomplishment. She truly was a servant of God and a giver to many. She will truly be missed! From Germany, my prayers go out to the family and friends!

I thank God for Mother Belt. She was a mother figure to me and I loved her so much. My heart is so heavy because my human side is selfish and I prayed for life for her; but my Christian side knows that she is very happy with our Lord and Savior. She and Peanut have elevated my Christian walk and my personal relationship with God. Mom Belt was surely a child of the King and she has earned many crowns in her Christian walk. May God ease your hour of sorrow and surround you with His love.

We love you all!

I loved Mrs. Belt and will sincerely miss her. On many occasions, I observed and thought to myself, Mrs. Belt was a strong woman in the Lord. She set the standards of how we as Christians should live. Mrs. Belt stood for righteousness! Once you encountered Mrs. Belt's presences, there was no question or doubt of who she was and who's she was. She did not straddle the fence! Nor did she abuse her time on earth participating in unfulfilling activities. Christ was always at the forefront of her life. As a child, Mrs. Belt always made certain that I was provided a ride to church and choir practice and for that I am thankful. She leaves behind many happy and memorable times in Gambrills and at Macedonia. She is a part of my history. More importantly, she leaves behind a legacy that epitomizes greatness. I loved what she stood for and I truly admire how she raised all of her children to be outgoing, active and leaders within the community and within their prospective churches. It is my goal to reach Heaven. I will look for the voice who always shouted “Have thy own way Lord!”
