William Simpson Garner

Bill Garner passed on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Temple, TX. He served in the armed forces from 1956 until 1962 where he was a champion sharpshooter. Bill married the love of his life, Patricia G. Ziller in 1956. His professional career as an editorial cartoonist included working at the Pacific Stars and Stripes, The Washington Star, The Memphis Commercial Appeal and finally The Washington Times, where he worked for 26 years until his retirement in 2009. He won numerous awards for his fine art and editorial cartoons including The National Headliner Award in 1981. Bill was passionate about his family; he loved birding, old western movies, the Redskins and smoking brisket. He is survived by his wife Patricia and four children, Elizabeth (Erricker), Kathleen (Veazey), David and Brian, a large, loving extended family and Daisy, his Bichon.
