KELLY, THOMAS "TOM" RAYMOND, 70, passed away peacefully at his house, filled with people he loved, in Riva, Maryland on November 24, 2013 after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Tom was born on January 20, 1943 in New Haven, Connecticut, the eldest child of Frances Doris Pinaglia Kelly and Thomas Frederick Kelly. Tom was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War who retired a Senior Chief Petty Officer after a highly-decorated, 20-year career as a cryptology communications technician attached to the National Security Agency. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1960 and began active duty the following year. He was stationed in the Philippines and then in the Gulf of Tonkin during the war. Other duty stations included Adak, Alaska; Winter Harbor, Maine; Rota, Spain; and Ft. Meade, Maryland. During his naval service, he earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in political science from the University of Maryland. After retiring from the Navy, Tom worked as a realtor in Annapolis, alongside his wife, Yona, who was his soul mate and the love of his life. He was a devoted and much beloved father to Ann Kelly, Tami Baki, and Keren Marti. He was Saba the Great One to his grandchildren Alanna, Zoe, Atlas, Blaise, Gage, Grace, and Lena. When not spending time with his grandchildren, he loved reading and discussing history, politics, and going fishing. He was a man of honor who earned the love and respect of everyone he encountered. The family will celebrate Tom's life at their home this Thanksgiving week with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Tom's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project, at
