Eugene L. "Gene" Swensen, 84, of York, Pa., died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at York Hospital.

Born April 30, 1929, in Exira, Iowa, he was the son of the late Andrew and Emma Degn Swensen. He was the husband of Bette Pittman Raver Swensen, with whom he observed their 18th wedding anniversary on April 22.

He was a Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He retired in 1991 as vice president of engineering for U.S. Gypsum. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University and had multiple patents in product design and manufacturing methods.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York, the Heritage Hills Tennis and Fitness Club and the York Carvers.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Jeffrey Eugene Swensen and wife Susan, of Eldersburg; stepdaughter Beth Raub and husband Paul, of Gettysburg, Pa.; stepson Rick Raver and wife Jeni, of York, Pa.; grandchildren Dillon Andrew Swensen, Gabriela Raub, and Ben, Nate and Sarah Raver; several nieces and nephews; and sisters Virginia Bornholdt, of Exira, and Mary Childers, of Melbourne, Fla.

Following cremation, visitation will be held from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, in the Gathering Place, 225 E. Market St., York. A memorial service will be follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with his pastor, the Rev. Allison J. Beaulieu, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., York, PA 17403; or to the Patient Representative in the Department of Emergency Medicine, c/o York Hospital, 1001 S. George St., York, PA 17405-7198.
