George Emerson Rue Jr., 69, of Taneytown, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born Oct. 27, 1944, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late George E. Rue Sr. and Marion Hitchcock Rue. He was the husband of Dorothy Wolfe Rue, his wife of 36 years.

He had served in the Army, and was the owner/operator of Eagle Jewelers, in Mount Airy, for 34 years.

He was a member of the Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120, of Taneytown, and was a past member of the Mount Airy Rotary Club. He enjoyed golf, the Ravens, the Orioles and Mount St. Mary's basketball.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Amy Gehrke and wife Eilene, of Portland, Ore., and Julie Starkwether and husband Adam, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; grandchildren Cameron and Shannon Fierro, and Lexie and Caitie Starkwether; sister Mary Alice "Rusty" Myers and husband Elwood, of Union Bridge; sister-in-law Betty Williams and husband Keith, of New Windsor; and brothers-in-law Dan Wolfe and wife Kathy, and Richard Wolfe, all of New Windsor.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Windsor Station at the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, 101 High St., New Windsor, with the Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. Private interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood.
