Howard F. Doll Jr., 77, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.
Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Howard F. Sr. and Mary Alice Doll. He was the husband of Mary Anne Doll, who died in 2008.
He attended the University of Illinois
and later enlisted in the Navy, serving as a radar operator. He spent most of his life employed as an insurance claims adjuster for Aetna Insurance Company and Travelers Insurance Company. Following his retirement from Travelers he became a part-time adjuster for McCall's Independent Insurance Adjusters.
For the past year, he had enjoyed living at Country Acres Assisted Living Center. He enjoyed model trains, drives around Adams County and eating out. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are daughter Johannah P. Doll and significant other Jeremy Wortz, of Gettysburg; a sister, Marice Doll, of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; and a brother, Ted Doll, of Glenwood Springs.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service, 2 p.m. Saturday at Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with the Rev. Ann Schlossnagle officiating. Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.
