James Edwin "Ed" Stuller, 88, of Westminster, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.
Born Feb. 16, 1925, in Westminster, he was the son of the late D. Raymond Stuller and H. Grace Eckard Stuller. He was the husband of Doris V. Stuller, who died Nov. 5, 2010.
Before retiring he was an insurance agent for Washington National, later working for Congoleum for 15 years as a millwright and mechanic. After his retirement he worked as a handyman.
He was a veteran of the Army
who served during World War II
with the 45th Division Thunderbirds in Naples, Foggia, Rome, Aron and Anizo in Italy, in Southern France and in Rhineland. He was wounded in action Feb. 11, 1944, receiving the Purple Heart
Medal, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Sharp Shooter (MI Rifle) and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Westminster Church of Christ, VFW
Post No. 8806 in Union Bridge and VFW Carroll Post No. 467, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Carroll Post No. 31, and past president and charter member of the Silver Run-Union Mills Lions Club. He enjoyed calling bingo, Wednesday morning coffee club with his Sunnybrook friends, spending time with friends and family, and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Jay R. and Diane Stuller, of New Windsor; daughters and sons-in-law Susan K. Stuller, and Patricia L. and Raymond Bankert, all of Westminster, and Laurie M. and Harry Griffith, of Hampstead; sons Gary N. and Michael T. Stonesifer, and Ted L. Stonesifer and wife Roberta, all of Westminster; a sister-in-law, Catherine Stuller, of Essex; niece and nephew Virginia Lee Sheeks and Donnie Stuller, both of Essex; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers Ralph, Raymond and Donald Stuller; grandchildren Beth A. Friese, Teresa J. Stuller and Lewis D. Stonesifer; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Stonesifer.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jodie Hendricks officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Silver Run.
