The Hero and Eagle has taken flight to see the face of God, John Joseph Pepsin, Sr. 91, of Westminster, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Longview Nursing Home in Manchester. Born January 19, 1923 in Taylor, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew T. and Johanna Super Pepsin. He was the husband of 61 years to the late Marie C. Schovitz Pepsin, who died November 17, 2009. He was a Superintendent for Kessler Shoe Company and had previously worked for Golo Shoe Company in Dunmore, PA. He was the Chairman of the Board for New Song Guitar Center, Inc., the family business for 25 years. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church where he served as an Usher for many years, the Disabled American Veterans and was an avid fisherman, hunter and followed the Orioles and the Ravens. He enjoyed cooking. In his younger days, he was a volunteer fireman in Old Forge, PA. Surviving is son and daughter-in-law John J. Pepsin, Jr. and wife Diane of Hanover, PA; daughter Jessica Pepsin of Westminster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm (Chapel entrance) at PRITTS FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 am at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. Officiating will be Msgr. James Farmer. Interment with military honors will be held in Meadow Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21157.
