Philip Grover "Phil" Bridges, 89, of Finksburg, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.
Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Grover and Rose Donahue Bridges. He was the husband of Opal E. Barber Bridges, who died Jan. 21, 2011.
He was the owner operator of Bridges Tree and Shrubbery Service. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II
He enjoyed dancing, bluegrass music, Orioles baseball, traveling, vegetable gardening, playing his dishpan and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Kemper, of Spring Grove, Pa.; a sister, Elsie Barnes, of Flintstone; grandchildren and spouses Teresa and Mark Baile, of Finksburg, Philip and Amy Whited, of Colorado, Christopher and Amy Whited, and Melissa and Jason Plank, all of Hanover, Pa.; great-grandchildren Samantha Marszalek and husband Brian, of Finksburg, Travis Bowers, of Finksburg, Gage and Landon Plank and Gabriel and Griffin Whited, all of Hanover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Eugene Kemper; five sisters; and two brothers.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m. Monday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with Deacon Joseph Cinquino officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
