Richard N. Hyson, 82, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at home.

Born March 13, 1930, in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Paul F. and Josephine Chaney Hyson. He was the husband of Martha Martin Hyson, his wife of 55 years.

He graduated from Hampstead High School in 1947 and Baltimore Business College in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1948 until he was discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1952. He retired from the United States Postal Service after serving as a rural carrier in Hampstead for 37 years.

He was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hampstead, serving as the church council president along with many other committees. He was a member of the Historical Society in Carroll County, a member of the Stewartstown Historical Society and a 60-year member of the American Legion Post 200 in Hampstead. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution Winchester Chapter in Westminster, and was the secretary of the Hampstead Cemetery Company. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, antiques and his home.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Miriam E. Hyson, of Baltimore, and companion Monty L. Aviles, and Susan G. Morehead and husband Bryan D. Morehead, of Atlanta, Ga.

He was predeceased by a brother, David A. Hyson.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial service, 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1373 N. Main St., Hampstead. Interment will follow in the Hampstead Cemetery, 4114 Black Rock Road, Hampstead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mark's Memorial Fund, St. Mark's Evangelical, Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 249, Hampstead, MD 21074.
