Wilford Eugene "Willie" Barnes, 85, of Finksburg, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born Jan. 4, 1928, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mattie Sue Harmon Barnes. He was the husband of the late Lavina Grace Reed Barnes, his wife of 53 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict
, having served in the Air Force. He was employed as a salesman for Suburban Propane for more than 35 years, retiring in 1991.
He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of Lebonon Lodge No. 175, A.F.& A.M., and Lebanon Chapter No. 108, Order of the Eastern Star of Manchester, the Carroll Scottish Rite and the Boumi Temple Shrine. He was an avid Orioles, Colts and Ravens fan. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and belonged to the Damascus Travel Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl B. DeVilbiss, of Hampstead; and granddaughters Ashley N. DeVilbiss and fiance Leif Jansson, of Sykesville, and Jaime M. DeVilbiss and boyfriend Marshall Green III, of Finksburg.
He was predeceased by a son, Brian Eugene Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead, with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, with the Rev. Dr. Stanley Harrell and the Rev. Amy Sarah Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Wesley United Methodist Cemetery.
