William W. Slemmer Sr., 94, of Annapolis, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at home.
Born April 8, 1919, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late William Daniel Slemmer and Anna Feiereisen Slemmer. He was the husband of Betty Joy Ross Slemmer, who died in 1997.
He was a retired veteran of the Army
, who served in World War II
, Korea and NATO. He retired with rank of major. While in the Army, he received a Purple Heart
, a Bronze Star
and a Certificate of Merit.
In addition, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Baltimore City Water Department, where he was the chief of customer service. He attended Penn State University and the University of Maryland.
Surviving are children William W. Slemmer Jr., of Colorado, Joseph D. Slemmer, of Hagerstown, and Nancy Slemmer and Lynn Mullineaux, both of Annapolis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by 10 siblings.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Manchester Baptist Church, 2933 Manchester Baptist Church Road, Manchester. Interment will be in Manchester Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401; or to the American Red Cross, 2025 E. St., Washington, DC, 20006.
