Bobby Odell Drawdy SUMMERVILLE - Bobby Odell "Champ" Drawdy, USAF (Ret.) 82, of Summerville, husband of Dolores W. Drawdy, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012 at his Bonneau Beach residence. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to:
, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Charleston, SC 29407. Mr. Drawdy was born June 24, 1930 in Bamberg County, son of the late Ruby Edgar Drawdy and Marie Braxton Drawdy. He attended Summerville schools where he excelled in Athletics while playing football at SHS, The Summerville High School Greenwaves were State Champions for two years. He was always proud of Summerville's winning tradition and being a big part of it. He received numerous scholarship offers from schools all over the country including Stanford, Notre Dame, UCLA and many others. He finally chose the University of South Carolina where he had the distinction of playing on the first USC team to beat Clemson 4 years in a row. A feat the Gamecocks accomplished again this year for the first time since the 1951-1954 team. After graduating from USC he received an offer to play for the San Francisco 49ers. He also had a commission in the USAF. He chose the USAF commission and began a 20 year career in service. He was stationed at Eglin AFB Florida and played for the Eglin Eagles, the Base Football Team, who became the National Service Champions when he played. After retiring from the USAF and moving back to Summerville, he joined the coaching staff at Summerville High School. At SHS he also coached a 4A State Championship Track Team. He enjoyed fishing and fished in many locations in the states and overseas, but the place he loved the most from his early childhood on was the beautiful Edisto River. He loved God, his family, his friends and his former students. He will be missed. Surviving in addition to his wife are: one son and two daughters: Robert Odell Drawdy of Summerville, Suzanne Michele Drawdy and Elizabeth Drawdy Taylor (Henry) both of Bonneau Beach, three grandchildren: Robert "Robbie" Drawdy, Jr. of Summerville, Rachel Irene Taylor and Carly Heather Taylor both of Bonneau Beach, one bother: Jackie Edward Drawdy of Easley, several nieces and nephews.
