Chester Newton "Pete" Perry III ATLANTA, GA - Chester Newton "Pete" Perry, III, of Atlanta, Georgia, died Monday, June 10, 2013 from complications of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 67. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the graveside in St. Philip's Churchyard, Sunday, September 29, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on Dec. 8, 1945. He was the son of the late Chester N. Perry, Jr., of Charleston who died in 1949 and Caroline Wood Fowler of Hendersonville, NC. He grew up in Atlanta, Ga, attending public schools. He graduated from The University of Georgia with degrees in business administration and math. Chester served in the Army from 1968 until 1971, and was stationed in South Korea. He returned to Atlanta and earned a Master's Degree in education from Georgia State University in 1977. Chester explored life on the West Coast and in the Midwest, Charleston and Asheville before accepting a job in Atlanta, during the 80's with Aetna. He retired in 1994 and later operated a home repair business, Handy Guy, until 2004. For the past dozen years, travel and long distance cycling have been his focus, until ALS began taking its toll in late 2012. Chester is survived by his mother, Caroline Fowler of Hendersonville, NC; his dear friend, Dr. Lindi Meadows of Atlanta; two sisters, Susan Perry Davis (Nat) of Charleston, SC, Peggy Fowler Thornton (Herb) of Hendersonville, NC; a brother, Mike Fowler (Susie) of Greensboro, NC; seven nieces and nephews and a great-niece and nephew.
