William Stuart Ratliff SUMMERVILLE - William Stuart Ratliff, 88, husband of Mary Lewis Ratliff, of Summerville, SC, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013 at Summerville Baptist Church at 11 o'clock. Burial will follow in Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax, SC at 3:30 o'clock. Friends may call at the church Tuesday morning from 10 o'clock until time of service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Village at Summerville, PCSC, 201 W. 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Mr. Ratliff was born February 20, 1925 in Georgetown, SC, a son of James Perry Ratliff and Sara Jones Ratliff. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns. Mr. Ratliff graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Forestry, and was licensed as a registered forester. He retired as wood procurement manager with Westvaco Lumber. He was a longtime member of Summerville Baptist Church where he faithfully served as an ordained Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He also served on the Building Committee for the sanctuary. He recently was honored as a Life Deacon for the church. He served on the Tree Committee and the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Summerville. Mr. Ratliff also served on the Board of Directors and as Board Chairman for the Dorchester Alcohol and Drug Commission. He was a longtime member of the Dorchester Boat Club. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ratliff of Summerville; two sons, Stephen R. Ratliff and wife Tammy of Summerville, and Stuart P. Ratliff of WV; five grandchildren, Rob Ratliff and wife, Kacey, English Ratliff, Kaleb Wren, Karley Wren, and Lucas Ratliff.
