Kenneth Abernethy Obituary

Kenneth M. Abernethy CHARLOTTE - Kenneth McCoy Abernethy, 87, died Saturday, the 21st of March, 2015, in Summerville, SC. He was born on the 21st of August, 1927, in Charlotte, NC, and was the son of the late Joseph Reid and Alea Crowell Abernethy. He served in the US Army during World War II and Korea. He retired from ICI America Chemical Company after 28 years of service and was in the chemical and plumbing business for over 50 years. The Abernethy family will greet friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM, Tuesday, the 24th of March, 2015, at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church. A service to celebrate Ken's life will be held at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include wife of 54 years, Deany Karr Abernethy of Summerville; daughters, Kathryn A. Cox (Joe) of Cary, NC, and Kimberly A. Kistler (Norman) of Charleston, SC; and grandchildren, Shane Wexel and Chase Wexel of Cary, Robert Cox of Troy, NY, Logan Kistler (Brie) of Inman, SC and Hannah Kistler of Charleston; and great-grand-daughter, Carly Lewis of Clayton, NC. Also surviving are sisters, Ruth Gullick of Victoria, Texas, Sara Meissner (Greg) of Mountainside, NJ, and brothers, Charles Abernethy (Nancy) of Charlotte, Lee Abernethy of N. Charleston, SC, and Earl Abernethy (Kathy) of Indian Trail, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca M. Abernethy; sister, Evelyn Robinette; and brothers, Joe, Harrison, Bill, Gene, and Melvin Abernethy. He was a kind and gentle man and was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be made in remembrance of Kenneth M. Deany, we were sorry to learn of Kenneth's passing. We have fond memories of you two at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church. We were also sorry to learn of Melvin's passing. He was a dear friend of ours. Our love and prayers are with you.
