BURTON R. ABRAHAMS

Obituary Condolences

Burton R. Abrahams, age 89, passed peacefully Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, Burt was born in Chicago and grew up in LaGrange, IL. He attended Northwestern University, became Captain of the Golf team in 1943, and earned a bachelor's in Economics. Burt and Mavis, his wife of 63 years, were longtime residents of Winnetka, IL. After forming and operating Financial Acceptance, an automobile finance company, for 12 years, Burt along with brother Robert, joined Walter E. Heller and Company in the fall of 1960. Over the next 26 years at Heller, Burt helped build both their domestic and International financing expertise. Burt established Heller Overseas during 18 of those years, developing the company for Heller with over 26 offices in 26 different countries around the world, and solidifying Heller's position as a global financial resource. He later ran First Chicago's Credit Corporation, amongst several other projects in later years, which also included being the SVP of Fremont Financial. He served as a member of Roosevelt University's Board of Trustees, and as a past President and Chairman of the Commercial Finance Association. Burt was an accomplished musician playing the clarinet, sax, piano and accordion. Though, we are sure, he would most wish to be remembered for his superb golf game, being nearly a scratch golfer for most of his life, and his love for the game . His sense of humor, elegance and love of life is what his family will remember. As a great husband and father, he is survived by wife Mavis; daughter Jody; and sons Andrew and Randy; along with brother Robert; and sister Joy Gordon. There will be an open house on Feb. 4 for family and friends. The family will provide notice to as to time and location. For those who wish to inquire about the gathering to commemorate Burt, please contact Randy Abrahams (rabrahams@redridgefg.com).
