Betsey Merrifield Obituary
Merrifield, Betsey Pallat "Beloved mother, Speech therapist, Educator." Betsey P. Merrifield of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Winnetka, IL, passed away November 1, 2012 at age 83 of a long term illness. An informal service was held at the Inn at Sarasota Bay Club in Sarasota. Betsey was the only child of Herbert and Henrietta Pallat in Winnetka, IL. She attended New Trier High School, Colby Junior College and graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelors Degree in Speech Therapy. As a resident of the North Shore and an entrepreneur, she began a Speech and Hearing Center, a non-profit organization / Resource Center for early childhood development and speech and hearing disorders. She also was instrumental in starting a radio program called "Communication At Its Best." In her lifetime, she was active with the La Leche League, Alpha Phi Sorority, Junior League, Masters Swim Club in Sarasota, and the Silverstein Institute. She was a devoted mother of twin daughters, Betsey M. Gault (James) of Seattle, WA, and Barbara M. Collins of Evergreen, Colorado; loving grandmother of Kyle Amerson (Jessica), Ryan Amerson (Tiffany), Alexander Collins, and Robert Collins; and great-grandmother to Dylan Amerson. Memorial contributions may be made to the local National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
