Charlotte Jane (Eckert) Cacharelis Obituary
Cacharelis, Charlotte Jane Eckert 88, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Marshak Family Hospice Pavillion in Glenview, IL with her family at her side. She is survived by her loving children, Brenda Hoff of Glenview and Phillip Cacharelis of Lille, France; as well as two grandchildren, Alexander and Kate Hoff; sister-in-law, D. Donna Cacharelis; niece, Abigail Whitenack; and grandnephew, Ben Whitenack. She was predeceased by her son, Joel Cacharelis; ex-husband, Byron Cacharelis; and her loving sister, Helen Whitenack of Coral Gables FL. Jane was born February 13, 1925 in New Philadelphia, OH, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Eckert where her father was a prominent business owner and her mother an elementary school teacher. In high school Jane excelled in the theatre and musical arts, and she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University at Oxford, OH and a Master of Arts degree in Library Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. On June 14, 1955, she became the bride of Byron Cacharelis in Alexander Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, Fifth Ave., New York, New York. Jane was a longtime resident of Winnetka, IL where she raised her three children after moving from Evanston, IL in 1967. Jane played her viola in both The Northshore Chamber Orchestra and The Highland Park Strings for many years. In addition to playing and enjoying music, she loved biking, horticulture, picnics at the beach, playing Bridge, politics, and she was a devoted parishioner of Christ Church for 45 years. Services were held at the church shortly after her death with family members in attendance and in loving memory her cremains were laid to rest in the cemetery of Christ church.
