Dolores Kohl Obituary
Dolores A. (Dodie) Kohl, 74, longtime resident of Wilmette and Lighthouse Point, FL, passed away suddenly at home on August 24, 2013. Beloved companion and best friend to Susan Salay; dear sister to Dennis R. (Mary Lou) Kohl, aunt to their four children. Special friend to Donna and Ted Abernathy. Dodie graduated from Kelvyn Park High School and received a B.A. from Northwestern University in 1960 where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She later received an M.S. from the University of Chicago. Dodie began teaching at Old Orchard Junior High in Skokie the first year it opened and remained for 37 years. During her career she became a team leader and principal of the Omega House. After retirement, Dodie became actively involved in the management of the Village Green Condominium and served as president of the board for seven years. She supervised many major maintenance projects and developed a professional management team. Dodie was an avid golfer and belonged to several Wilmette Golf Club women's leagues. She served in many offices of both leagues and was also president of the Women's Golf Association twice. She attended the Pine Needles Golfaris ten times. Among her other interests were Chicago and New York Theater. She had subscriptions to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Ars Viva, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and Writers Theater. Dodie's most constant devotion was to Northwestern University where she held season tickets to football for almost fifty years. She also followed men's and women's basketball teams, lacrosse, softball, field hockey, and men's and women's golf. She supported other areas of the university and valued friends that she made both during school and at other NU events. Dodie was a friend and mentor to many, and her good will and kindness will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the athletic teams or theater programs at Northwestern University. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 11:00 a.m. at The Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern University, 1870 Sheridan Rd., Evanston, IL 60208. A reception will follow.
