Dr.  Donald Anderson Obituary
Anderson D.D.S., Dr. Donald A. 97, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013, at Season's of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, Wisconsin. He was born August 16, 1916 in Chicago, son of Dr. Emil and Julia (Hart-Darrow) Anderson. His wife, Ann (Steel) Anderson, preceded him in death as well as his brothers, Emil, Robert Darrow and his sister, Lois Foukal. He is survived by his son, Dave (wife Nancy) and daughter, Carol Anderson; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a WWII veteran in the Navy Dental Corps serving with the First Marine Division in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star. A Navy Reservist thirty years, he retired with the rank of Captain. Don and Ann lived in Wilmette and Winnetka, Illinois. Don grew up in Wilmette and graduated from New Trier High School where he had been captain of the basketball team and received the Tri-Ship Award in 1935. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell College. He attended the Chicago College of Dental Surgery at Loyola University where he graduated cum laude in 1942 and received the C. N. Johnson Memorial Award for character, scholarship and proficiency in Operative Dentistry. He also received the Gold Key of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the honor society of the dental profession. His dental office was in the Marshall Field Annex in Chicago where his father previously practiced dentistry. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 5 in Wilmette and enjoyed canoeing in Canada with the Scouts. When he retired from his dental practice they moved to their lake home in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin.
