Frank Guthrie Obituary
Guthrie, Frank W. Jr. M.D. age 85 of Libertyville and former long-time resident of Winnetka, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2013 after a long illness. His beloved wife of 60 years, Nancy McMartin, was at his side. Born December 27, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BS from Northwestern University, where he served as President of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and graduated with Honors from the Northwestern School of Medicine. Following serving in the Air Force, he went to the University of Michigan where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine followed by a Fellowship in Endocrinology. He practiced medicine 45 years at Evanston Hospital where he served as President of the Professional Staff and head of the Department of Endocrinology. He was passionately devoted to the care of his many patients. Frank is survived by wife Nancy; his children: Gail and husband Pat Schultz, Warren and wife Catherine, Julie Hubbard, Laurie Sykes, and Bruce; and his 13 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2014 at 2 pm at the Kenilworth Union Church, 211 Kenilworth Ave, Kenilworth, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: the Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center at 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025; Northwestern Hospital Memory Care c/o Dr. Mesulam of CNADC at 251 Huron, Chicago, IL 60611; or to the Diabetes Research Program of North Shore Hospital at 2650 Ridge Ave, Evanston, IL 60201.
