George Dekan Obituary
George J. Dekan, athlete, musician, teacher, coach, builder, inventor, track and field official, died Jan. 9 in Ft. Myers, FL. Coach Dekan graduated from Wheaton, IL, High School, Northern Illinois State Teachers College, and the University of Alabama. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Dekan taught electronics shop at Glenbard West High School and worked as a guidance counselor at Glenbard East High School. He earned many honors from local, state and national organizations during thirty-five years teaching, coaching, and officiating. He invented and patented the Athletic Performance Analyzer and founded the Dekan Timing Devices Corporation and Dekan Athletic Equipment Corporation. The George Dekan Memorial Scholarship has been established through the Illinois State Track/Cross Country Coaches Association. A memorial service will be held at the Estero United Methodist Church, Estero, FL, on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 AM.
