Helen Marie Bogan Obituary
Helen Marie Bogan, 87, died after a brief illness on May 16, 2013, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Edward and Lucile (Kornreich) Klein, she lived most of her life in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, with her late husband Richard Waring Bogan. Helen and Dick were married for more than 60 years. A graduate of Northwestern University, Helen devoted her time to raising her family and exploring a variety of pursuits. She loved good food, art and literature, and helped establish the Clarendon Hills Public Library, where she was a faithful volunteer. A talented artist, seamstress, baker and photographer, Helen's chosen medium became bookbinding, which she practiced for 25 years. Helen and Dick traveled widely in Europe and the Far East, but most loved fly fishing in the American West and Argentina, where they pursued the elusive "Mr. Big." Helen is survived by her children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Tom, Kathleen and Dan, and David and Ann; grandchildren Matthew, Jacob, Carl, Nathan and Leah; great-grandchildren Isabel and Laurel; her sister Barbara; and her beloved grand-dogs, Frodo, Sophie and Dr. Sadie. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Helen's name may be made to the Clarendon Hills Public Library, 7 North Prospect Street, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514; or the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/html/help.html. Services will be private.
