Jack Keck Obituary
Jack Keck - Formerly of Joliet, passed away Tuesday, August 20, in Rochester, MN, peacefully in his sleep. Age 91 years. Born in Joliet, IL, to William and Ellen Keck, of Swedish and Austrian descent, he founded several successful businesses, served his country, and gave generously to the community. Jack lived in Joliet for 85 years before moving to Charter House, next to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He met his wife Evon while attending Joliet Township High School (now Joliet Central). Married for just three months, Jack enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served his country for three years without leave as an Electrician First Class in the South Pacific during WWII. Jack's love, next to his family, was the motor business. He got an early start working with his family at William Keck and Sons Electric Company, and he went on to co-found Keck Electric and Joliet Equipment Corp., buying and selling motors all over the world. At 65, instead of retiring, he bought the Wisconsin Steel Mill, dismantled it, and brought the equipment to Joliet to be cleaned and sold. With his brother, Norman Keck, he purchased Michigan Beach and turned it into the Joliet Beach Club, drawing local families for 31 summers. Through the Evon D. and Jack H. Keck Foundation, he's donated to Silver Cross Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, and many other charitable and community organizations. Jack is survived by his grandson Sean (Donna) Keck and three great-grandchildren Cynthia, Isabelle, and Gauge; granddaughter Daphne (Michael) Laughridge; brother William (Joan) Keck; numerous nieces and nephews; and companion Marlene Dennison. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Evon; beloved children Cynthia Keck Ellis and Richard Lee Keck; twin sister Betty Viscum; and siblings Carl Keck, Norman Allan Keck, Sr., Vivian Keck, and Evelyn Owen. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Monday, August 26 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Hope Sibson officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Remembrances may be made in Jack Keck's name to United Cerebral Palsy of Will County or Children's Research Triangle of Chicago. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M.
