Harper Sr., James Homer Sunrise- September 25, 1951; Sunset- May 31, 2013 Our memories build a special bridge when loved ones have to part, To help us feel we're with them still and soothe a grieving heart. Our memories span the years we shared, preserving ties that bind They build a special bridge of love and bring us peace of mind. James Homer Harper, Sr., of Merrillville, IN, who was a Gary resident most of his life, passed away last Friday morning, May 31, 2013. He graduated from West Side High School in 1969, and honorably served in the U.S. Air Force. He also attended Purdue University Calumet, where he majored in business. He owned and operated H&M Auto Repair for Foreign and Domestic Cars, in Gary, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, John Nathan Harper, Sr.; mother, Walterene Harper; sisters, Gwendolyn and Deborah; brothers, Brian Jay, Tommie, Sr., and John, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories three children, daughter, Eboni (Teon) Magee, of Merrillville, and sons, James, Jr., and Steven Harper, both of Gary; two grandchildren, Y'na Magee and Saadiq Harper; six sisters, Carolyn Thomas, Mary (Cleveland) Agee, Arlene (Lorenzo) King, Roberta (Alfred) Couch, Janice Harper, Janette (Samuel) Harris; and two brothers, George Harper, Robert (Esther) Harper; his "extended family" at Lincolnshire Health & Rehabilitation Center, in Merrillville, IN, who loved and cared for him in his final years; and a host of other friends and relatives. Arrangements entrusted to Guy & Allen Funeral Directors, where visitation and services will be held. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the funeral service will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. Interment, immediately following, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Hobart, IN.
