Joyce Skoog Obituary
Joyce E. Skoog, 73, of Hinsdale, IL. At rest Saturday January 25, 2013. She was born to the late Albert and Florence Anicich, Feb. 21, 1940, in Chicago, IL. Joyce graduated from Bowen High School in 1957. She married Roy A. Skoog and they celebrated their 54th anniversary last Spring. Joyce received her master's degree in adult education from the University of Illinois and holds a BA degree in communications and management from DePaul University. After having held senior management positions in fund development, community relations, communications, and continuing education, Joyce retired in 2002 as S.V.P. of Institutional Advancement of the Aspen Institute. She previously worked for Arthur Andersen, United Way, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the College of DuPage. Joyce served the Village of Hinsdale for 20 years holding positions on the Planning Commission, as a Trustee on the Village Board, Chair of the Fire & Police Commission, Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals and as the first woman President of the Village. She served on several other boards and civic groups in greater Chicago and in 2002, was awarded the Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award from the Illinois Humanities Council for her contributions. Recently, Joyce served on the Executive Committee of the Ounce of Prevention Fund Board of Directors and was Board Chair from 2005-2008. The Ounce of Prevention Fund is a non-profit doing innovative work in early childhood development. She was also a Trustee for the Chicago Theological Seminary a school committed to cultivating leaders for the next generation of ministry. Joyce was active in education, mission outreach, and development at the Union Church of Hinsdale where she was a member of the Executive Council. She has previously served as Chair of Trustees and Moderator of the Church. Joyce's commitment to lifelong learning is evident in her completion last spring of a four-year Asian Studies program at the Graham School of the University of Chicago. She was currently enrolled in the Basic Program which explores our Western culture. Joyce is survived by four children: Cheryl and her husband Peter A. Tague of Bronxville, NY; Linda and her husband Jeffrey G. Sluman of Hinsdale; Bradley A. Skoog of Downers Grove; Melissa and her husband John Christopher Dunagan of Chicago. She is also survived by four grandchildren: William Tague, Katie Sluman, Jack Dunagan and Willa Dunagan. A visitation will be held Wednesday January 29, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Adolf Funeral Home, 7000 S. Madison St. Willowbrook. IL 60527. Memorial Service Thursday January 30, 11:00 am at The Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave., Hinsdale, IL. Services will conclude at the church.
