Katherine "Katie" Therese Kuhn of Glens Falls, NY died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 11, 2014 as the result from a fall into the Hudson River, when trying to rescue her dogs that broke though the ice. Born November 25, 1949, Katie was the loving daughter of Janet, nee Herold, and Philip Kuhn; dear sister to Mikki (Jim) Swanson, Phil (Julie), Tom (Mary), Daisy (Bob) Nixon, Charlie (Susan) and Dan (Laurie); and fond aunt, niece and cousin to many. Her beloved dogs Clarence and Elsie also survive her. Raised in Highland Park, IL, Katie was a graduate of Regina Dominican High School and earned her degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Katie was a talented and accomplished composer, pianist, writer and painter. She recorded six CD's, received ASCAP's Popular Music Award and was nominated in eight separate categories for the 40th Annual Grammy Awards. Katie directed the Children's Choirs at St. Mary's in Hudson Falls, NY and St. Joseph's in Fort Edwards, NY and was passionate about performing and teaching. She participated in writing groups in the Glens Falls, NY region and in Wisconsin and her artwork has been displayed in galleries. Her professional career transitioned from Reporter of a local newspaper to that of Tennis Instructor, Commodities Trader to Corporate Travel Director. Katie touched many lives through her travels, international performances and while residing in Glens Falls, NY, the Chicago area, Wisconsin, Alta Utah, Connecticut and Florida. She will be remembered as a generous, joyful, loving and creative person with a free spirit and kind soul. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 from 9 am until time of memorial mass 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 770 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, Il 60035. Interment All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Children's Choir of St. Joseph's Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY., 12828 or to SPCA of Upstate New York, 588 Queensbury Avenue, Queensbury, NY., 12804.
