Marie Burnside Obituary
Marie Kraemer Burnside, formerly of Evanston, IL, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013. She was 96 years old. Born in Chicago, Marie spent most of her life in Illinois. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1934 and earned her Bachelor in Arts at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. In addition to raising her family, Marie also worked for several years as a secretary at Christ Church in Winnetka, IL. A lifelong advocate of the arts, education, and community enrichment, Marie was a passionate supporter of the Northwestern University Settlement House and received its Inaugural Winner Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Dedication in 2007 at the age of 90. Marie was also a longtime supporter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Marie enjoyed tennis, rose gardening, and was an English handbell ringer which she loved to perform at Christ Church where she volunteered much of her time. Marie will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature and for her dedication to her family. Predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Burnside, and stepdaughters, MaryAnn Deaton and Patricia Summerbell, Marie is survived by many loving family members and friends: daughter Susan Moore and her husband Barry of Chatham, NJ; daughter-in-law Helga Deaton of Princeton, NJ; grandchildren Ellen Moore Haggerty and her husband Blake of Tewksbury, NJ; Michael Moore and his fiancée Natalie Kitka of Denver, CO; Kathleen Coco of Portersville, CA; Robert Summerbell and his wife Laura of Madison, WI; Jon Summerbell and his wife Sandy of Glen Ellyn, IL; Rebecca Deaton Lee and her husband Jad of Chicago, IL; Adam Deaton and his wife Sabena of New York, NY; and great-grandchildren Hunter, Maile, and William Haggerty, Julian Lee, Sean and Lila Summerbell, Emily, Sarah and Aidan Coco, and Celestine and Lark Deaton. A Memorial Service for Marie will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2pm at Christ Church, located at 794 Sheridan Road in Winnetka, IL.
