icon On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, Miriam Ruth Schweitzer, nee Weisdorf, of Rockville, MD. 1943-2013. Devoted mother of Sarah (Jeremy Eggleton) Schweitzer and Keren (Jason Lippmann) Schweitzer, Abigail (Dr. Ezra) Cohen and Dina Schweitzer. Dear sister of Deborah (Dr. Seth) Tanenbaum and Dr. Daniel (Pamela) Weisdorf. Loving grandmother of Leigh Grace and Caleb Eggleton, Jonah and Greta Lippmann, and Will, Lilah and Asher Cohen. Beloved daughter of the late Dr. William Weisdorf and the late Pearl S. Weisdorf of Glencoe. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Born in wartime Chicago, Mimi and her parents lived on several U.S. military bases in 1943-44. The family returned to Chicago when her father, then a military psychiatrist, served in Italy with the Fifth Army, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mimi graduated New Trier H.S, attended the University of Chicago and received her B.A. from the University of Illinois, and M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. She taught social studies at P.S. 43 in New York City and then English in the Houston Independent School District. There she was honored with the Elizabeth Brand Memorial Award for outstanding teaching at the secondary school level in 2000. She credited her grandfather, Samuel B. Seligman, a longtime teacher at John Marshall High School, as the inspiration for her teaching career. She died of complications from surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. Funeral services have been held. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah or Planned Parenthood.
