Ned Rockwell Obituary
Ned (Lake Bluff, IL) died May 17th after brief battle with lung cancer. Born Nov 29, 1956, he grew up in Gary, IN with a daily paper route, his first sailboat and trumpet. A graduate of Purdue University (BS Chem), IIT (MS Chem Eng) and Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, Ned's career spanned chemical and healthcare industries, most recently as EVP/COO, Pons Pharma, Inc. Ned loved the outdoors and was at his happiest when his children, Ben, John and Rachel joined him biking, sailing, hiking the back country, climbing a mountain or skiing down one. He shared his love of music with Amy (Hartzell), his wife of 29 years. Family and friends enjoyed his cooking skills including homemade brews and his off-beat comic outlook. Ned served on Alliance for Excellence, LB Dist. 65; as Kellogg EMP 20 class rep; troop leader for BS Troop 42 and member of Order of the Arrow. For countless soccer, gymnastics and volleyball teams, Ned was always an unofficial photographer. Ned is also survived by his mother Marcia (Taylor) (Gary, IN), sister Beth (Michael) Skoglund (Dublin, OH), sister-in-law Arlene (Barclay) (Newark, DE), nieces and nephews, Chris, Jeff, Kim and Brian. He is predeceased by his father, Richard and his brother, Allen. A celebration of Ned's life is being planned for later this summer. Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 42 (c/o Paula Barrette, Committee Chair, 87 Bullock St, Highland Park, IL 60035); League of Illinois Bicyclists (2550 Cheshire Drive, Aurora, Illinois 60504); US Sailing Foundation(http://donations.ussailing.org/US_Sailing_Foundation.htm).
