Thomas John Martin, also known as Thomas John Martino, 87, of Western Springs, LaGrange and LaGrange Park since 1952. Former husband of Carol Lorraine Klima Martin; beloved father of John Charles, Lawrence Thomas, Sylvia Rose, Donald Joseph (Donna Lynn), Marjorie Louise (Edward) Bontrager, and Celeste Lorraine (Eduardo) Borjon; loving grandfather of Nicole Lynn, the late Fleeta Carol, Heather Marie, Courtney Ellen, Gwynevere Elizabeth Martin, Jonathan Edward Bontrager, Rosella Lorraine and Angela Marie Borjon; dear brother of Josephine (Bernard) Venezia; fond uncle of Donna Venezia and the late Bernard Venezia. Also survived by numerous cousins. Mr. Martin was retired President and Director of Clyde Federal Savings and Club Historian at Riverside Golf Club. He was author of Riverside Golf Club- An American Landmark, published in 1993. He was a retired Senior Residential Appraiser and Life Member of The Appraisal Institute. Mr. Martin was a Life Member of the American Legion Post #1941, serving as its Commander from 1999-2000. He was Volunteer Executive of The International Executive Service Corps and 1995 Project Volunteer Consultant and Author of Strategic Business Plan for Banco de la Vivienda de Nicaragua (national housing finance). He was a member, lector, Eucharistic minister and past religion teacher at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs. Tom received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950 from Beloit College, then Northwestern University Graduate School from 1950 to 1951, Indiana University, Savings and Loan Graduate School from 1963 to 1967, and a Key Holder there. He then attended The Institute of Financial Education, Chicago. Mr. Martin was Past President of The Cermak Road Business Assn., 1967-1969, The Czechoslovak Savings and Loan League, 1969-1970, and The Board of Governors, Chapter 64, Institute for Financial Education in 1973. Tom was also a member of R. O.L.T. Visitation 3 to 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Prayers 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at the funeral home to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Western Springs for Mass at 11:15 a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
