Theodore Palter Obituary
Theodore John "Ted" Palter (formerly Palczynski), 87, embraced his divine opportunity on December 28, 2013 in the presence of his children and Pastor. He was preceded in death by Josephine Sophie (Workman) Palter, his wife of over 46 years. His indomitable spirit and enthusiasm are carried on by his four children, Mary Jo (and John) Jarzen, Cathlyn Marie (and Ken) Galassi- Kalchbrenner, John Theodore (and Kathleen) Palter and William Joseph (and Carol) Palter, by his ten grandchildren Steven, Brian, Jacob, Peter, Candice, Lindsey, Luke, Eliza, Ariah and Alana, and by his brother Edward (and Charlotte) Palczynski. Although the early loss of hearing in his right ear precluded military service, he overcame the disability to have a long and successful career. He started as a tool and die maker and later graduated from Northwestern University. He worked for thirty years at Sunbeam Appliance Company in Chicago before his first retirement. He spent time investing before securing his dream job at Tootsie Roll Industries, where he worked until his second retirement at the age of 70. He served as President of the Society for the Advancement of Management, served on the Berwyn Library Board, participated in the Friday Morning Regulars Group in La Grange, and was active in Divine Providence Parish. He was a prolific card writer, self-proclaimed poet, and created a blog called "Palter's Positive Platitudes." He was a devoted husband and caring and determined father. A seasoned traveler, Josephine and he visited all 50 states, 49 with children in tow. He greeted everyone with a smile and positive words of encouragement, and left every person and place he visited in a better condition than when he arrived. Visitation Tuesday, December 31, 8:30am until time of Funeral Mass 9:30am at Divine Providence Church 2550 Mayfair Ave., Westchester 60154. Interment Private St. Casimir Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Divine Providence Church would be appreciated. Arrangements by: Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home (708) 447-2500 or www.kuratko-nosek.com
