iconWilliam Barrett, 82, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, formerly of Chicago, Oak Park, and Elmhurst, passed away on December 2, 2013. Bill was a graduate of St. Giles School in Oak Park, Fenwick High School in Oak Park (1949), and the University of Notre Dame (1953). Bill served in the Korean War. A lifetime Cubs fan, Bill held his entire life a ticket stub from the last World Series game ever played by the team. He moved to Michigan in 1959 and worked for over 40 years in the furniture industry, retiring as a marketing executive in 2004. Bill served on several public boards and commissions in the Grand Rapids area, including President of the Comstock Park Board of Eduction from 1979 to 1983 and Chairman of the Grand Rapids Historic Preservation Commission from 1998 to 2000. Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lynn, his children, Nancy, Joan, Bill, Jr., Julie and Ellen, 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, He was preceded in death by his parents (William and Anne) and his sister, Joann.
