William Boyd Obituary
William ("Bill") Boyd passed on peacefully and contentedly on March 22nd at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 87 years old. Bill was born in Evanston, Illinois. He attended grade school and high school in Evanston and received his undergraduate degree and graduate degree in business administration from Northwestern University. After receiving his MBA, Bill traveled west to Sun Valley, Idaho where he was a bell hop at the Sun Valley Lodge. It is there that he met Janet Scantland -- the woman who would be his wife of almost 60 years. Bill and Jan raised three children - Bruce (married to Beth), Keith (married to Margie) and Ann (married to Kurt), and were the devoted grandparents of Jake, Charlie, Sam, Tyler, Jessie, Ella and Viola. Jan passed away in 2011. Bill spent his career in business. His first job was with Bell & Howell. Looking for more responsibility, Bill joined Kinkead Industries, eventually becoming President. When Kinkead Industries was acquired by United States Gypsum, Bill became a Group Vice President at USG where he successfully built the company's home products division. Bill and a colleague left the company to purchase the Sterling Faucet Company. What became the Sterling Plumbing Group was later acquired by the Kohler Company. Bill continued to run Sterling following the acquisition and served for many years on the Board of the Kohler Company. Since retirement, Bill, remained active as a member of the boards of Kohler, Cummins Allison, the Sunday Evening Club and Elmhurst College. Through his final days, Bill retained his signature sense of humor and positive attitude. A memorial service is planned for April 26th at 11:00 at the First Congregational Church of Wilmette (1125 Wilmette Avenue, Wilmette, Illinois). A reception at Westmoreland Country Club will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the William and Janet Boyd Scholarship Fund at Elmhurst College (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst, IL 60126).
