ALTA MAE SEILER May 11, 1918 - Jan. 17 , 2014 Alta Mae was lifted into the arms of Jesus on the evening of Friday, January 17, 2014. She was born in Billings, Montana to Virgil Cecil Johnston and Neva Erma Poston who were from Ash Grove, Missouri. She graduated from Billings High School and went on to graduate from Eastern Montana Normal College and then the University of Washington where she earned her Bachelor's degree. She married Archie McDonald in 1940 and had two children. She moved to Chico, CA in 1958 where she taught at Citrus Elementary for 24 years. She was remarried in 1964 to Frank Seiler. She was very active in the Chico community. She volunteered for 25 years at Enloe Hospital, was a 50 year member of Beta Sigma Phi, and was involved with Lady Elks and several other groups and committees in and around Chico. She loved to travel, golf, play Bridge and spend her time with friends and family. She moved to Bakersfield, CA in 2010 to live with her granddaughter Janelle Herndon. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Arle and Harold Johnston, husband, Frank Seiler and son, Duncan McDonald. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Sanchez, stepchildren, William Seiler and Deborah Seiler Hodges, granddaughters Janelle Herndon and Jill Anderson, and great-grandchildren Logan Anderson, Reilly, Madeleine, Eleanor Mae and Isaac Herndon. Her love of life will be remembered and celebrated at 3:00 pm on February 1st at Faith Lutheran Church in Chico, CA where she and Frank were long time members.
