BEN LEANY Our beloved Ben (loving known as Papa, Uncle Bud, Merc & LaVerl) passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 2 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and his loving dog, Goldie. He was born on December 13, 1933 in Hinckley, Utah to George W. and Olive Leany. He grew up as the youngest boy in a family of five children. Ben graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1959, and went on to receive his Bachelors in Foreign Trade from the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Phoenix, Arizona in 1960. He began his career in the lumber industry with Weyerhaeuser before moving to Chico in 1976, where he worked at Western Woods Inc. Lean Trading Company was incorporated in 1996 when he became an independent lumber broker. Ben met the love of his life, Patty, in the fall of 1983, and they were inseparable until her death in June 2010. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ~ Chico 1st Ward. He served his country in the United States Navy and as a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chico. Ben is survived by his sister Colleen Brown, son Steve Langley (Laura), daughter Amy Mayer (Chris), son Scott Shy, and eight grandchildren (Tess, Reece, Sheridan, Benjamin, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Frances and Evan). He is also survived by many loving family members throughout Utah. Services will be held on Saturday, September 6th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 735 W. East Avenue in Chico. Viewing will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m., with services immediately following. Internment will be at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Durham. Ben's family would like to give a heartfelt "Thank you" to his compassionate caregivers Kathi, Nancy and Sheila for their comfort and care.
