CHARLES BEACH A memorial service will be held for Dr. Charles Beach, 89 of Chico, on Saturday, March 29 at 3 p.m. at Butte Creek Country Club. He passed away on January 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. Charles was born on October 22, 1924 to Marguerite and Harry Beach in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Columbus Academy, Princeton University and Ohio State University Medical School before serving in the Navy. He served as a Senior Medical Officer while at sea during the Korean War. He completed residency at University of Virginia and Highland Hospital in Oakland, CA He married his first wife Mary Jo Roth in 1946 and then in 1964 married Loretta Grandy. Charles practiced Urology for over 40 years, most of which was in the East Bay Area. He concluded his career caring for patients in the Oroville/Chico area. Charles was an expert fly fisherman. As a physician he was known for his exceptional bedside manner. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was often referred to as "Bull." Charles had a great love for all animals and considered his pets part of the family. Having been raised in Ohio, he took great pride in being a Buckeye. Charles is survived by seven children Laura Beach of Healdsburg, Barbara (Geoff Kotin) Beach of Oakland, Stuart (Wanda) Beach of Gold River, David Beach of Berkeley, Marjorie (Zach Laputz) Beach of Davis, Tony (Christine) Beach of Colorado Springs, CO, Tim Beach of Chico; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one sister Nonnie Booher of Greensboro, NC. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Loretta in 1995 and his sister Jean Holmquist in 1999. Donations may be made in his name to ASPCA or Trout Unlimited in care of Bidwell Chapel.
