GARNET JUANITA (WHITE) BESSEY Sept 13, 1912 - Nov 8, 2012 An Oroville resident since 1949, was born in Selma, California, the oldest of four children born to Augustus and Minnie Cook. She graduated from Fresno State College in 1934 and became a school teacher. She taught 4th and 5th grade in Caruthers, CA from 1934 to1936. In 1937, she married Carlos Lloyd White. Two children were born from this union, Jaunita Dianne White in 1941, and Lloyd Alan White in 1945. She later returned to teaching 4th and 5th grade at Stanford Avenue School in Oroville, and taught there for many years until retiring. In 1977, she married Gerald Leroy Bessy. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed being a member of Sigma Phi Gamma for 61 years from 1951 to 2012. Garnet is survived by her brother, Thomas Cook of Concord, CA; son, Lloyd A. White and wife, Adrian of Castro Vally, CA; 4 grandchildren, Lloyd B. Wentworth, Aaron Wentworth, Kimberly White, and Amanda Washbun; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; some very special friends, and neighbors. A Viewing will be held at Scheer Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m., followed by a funeral service at Scheer at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, with burial to follow immediately afterwards at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville. The family would like to give special thanks to Prestige Assisted Living, Butte Home Health and Hospice for all of the wonderful care and love that they provided.
